Говорим как языконоситель часть 1 – Speak Like Native Speakers Do Part 1

The topic for today is your hometown. Imagine that you are answering the following questions:

1. Tell me about your hometown.

2. Tell me about your street.

3. What do you like about your hometown?

4. Is there anything you don’t like about it?

5. Would you like to move to another city in the future?

6. What would you like to change about your town?

7. Would you recommend me your town as a nice place to live in?

Read these questions several times. Be sure to understand them. No doubt, they are very easy. So, you also respond to them easily – do not engage in selecting uncommon vocabulary – it will activate itself during your delivery.

Think about the following helpful words and combinations:

winding streets

residential area

apartment complex

municipality

local quisine

regionally important

provincial, commercial, unique, industrial, distinctive, powerful, affluent

built-up, sprawling

Now look up these words in the dictionary and look at some combinations these words are likely to appear in:

1. – A municipality was established and the following announcement issued.

– regulations of the state and municipality

– He did pick-and- shovel work for the municipality.

2. – …stupider men than he are now sprawling in Parliament

– Many people, however, tend to think of sprawling cities as places where people make most of their trips by car.

– Los Angeles would certainly qualify as sprawling.

3. –  A man may have as much wisdom in the possession of an affluent fortune, as any beggar in the streets…

– There was a family of cousins within a walk of Uppercross, in less affluent circumstances.

– The master minds of all nations, in all ages, have sprung in affluent multitude from the mass of the nation…

Now look at the questions once again and tell me about your city, looking at the above-stated words and phrases.

And now please tell me about your city without looking at the phrases, but sill using them.

Вот так; пытаемся рассказать о своем городе, используя вышеупомянутые фразы. Надеюсь, несколько новых слов и словосочетаний вам понравятся.

До встречи,

Дмитрий
